Once Around (1991)
Holly Hunter stars in this romantic drama comedy. She plays Renata Bella, a twenty-something without much direction. In an attempt to find herself she flies to St. Martin to attend a seminar on how to sell condos to people in Boston. There she meets a charismatic successful salesman Sam Sharpe played by Richard Dreyfuss. The two meet and fall fast in love, but Renata‘s family isn’t as quick to take to Sam and his lavish lifestyle. The film includes stand out performances from Danny Aiello and Gena Rowlands. It’s funny, heart-warming and introspective. Few movies capture the essence of life in New England but this is a film you’ll want to see more than once.

The Outsiders (1983)
In 1983 Francis Ford Coppola made two films based on novels from S.E. Hinton. The first, Rumble Fish, received critical acclaim, but The Outsiders was more of a fan favorite. Pitting two gangs against each other The Socs (made up of affluent kids) and The Greasers (made up of lower socioeconimic kids including 3 brothers) the film gets super fueled when greaser Johnny (Ralph Macchio) pulls a knife and kills a member of the Socs. Although tame by today’s gang standards, the tension between the two is strong. Starring a bunch of young Hollywood icons including Matt Dillion, Tom Cruise, Ralph Macchio, Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, Dianne Lane, Emilio Estevez, and more this is one of the better stories written by Hinton.
